My daughter just turned eleven and got her first tablet last month, so I’d like to check her app and browsing history occasionally, but I don’t want her feeling spied on. Is there a fair way to balance that?

Totally doable if you make it a house rule instead of a secret: tell her you’ll do occasional spot checks, use built-in controls like Family Link or Screen Time, and review the log together so it’s about safety, not surveillance. At 11, asking her to show you apps/browser history when needed usually buys more trust than reading everything silently.

Honestly, the biggest privacy-saver isn’t the app — it’s telling her upfront: “I’ll check summaries sometimes, and here’s why.” That said, if you want tools that _feel_ less snoopy, Bark only sends you alerts when something concerning pops up (no endless browsing log to doomscroll), while Qustodio gives you full activity reports but can feel like reading her diary if you go deep.

One caveat: if it’s an iPad, Apple’s built-in Screen Time is free and decent but clunky; if it’s Android, Google Family Link is the obvious free starting point.

TL;DR: if you want trust-preserving and simple, use Bark or Family Link; if you want deep data (and accept the creep factor), use Qustodio.
