My daughter got an iPad for school and I want to hide the Messages app from her, but I’d rather not set up Screen Time. Is there any other way to lock or hide it?

Honestly, no—there’s no clean “hide/lock Messages” switch outside Screen Time; you’d need a school MDM profile or to sign out of iMessage/Apple ID, and even deleting the app can be undone via the App Store. If it’s a school iPad, check with IT first—they may already have restrictions you can use.
