My son keeps scrolling through short videos on his phone after bedtime. Is there actually a way to block the app without him realizing I’ve restricted it?

Not secretly, no—if you block TikTok through Screen Time or Family Link, he’ll see either a “restricted” screen or the app gone, and those tools often send a notification anyway. The only stealth-ish route is blocking TikTok’s domains on your home router at bedtime, but that only works on Wi‑Fi and he’ll just switch to cellular. Realistically, set the limit and tell him it’s a bedtime rule—less drama and it actually sticks.

Fully stealth blocking is tricky on iOS — most kids notice when an app suddenly stops working. Your quietest trick is Screen Time: set Content & Privacy Restrictions app age limit to 12+, and TikTok (rated 17+) just vanishes from the home screen instead of showing a “blocked” error, though a sharp kid may notice it’s missing. TL;DR: if you want simple + stealthy, use the Screen Time age-rating trick; if you want deep scheduling and usage data, go with Qustodio or Bark, but their apps/icons can give the restriction away.

Yes — Android offers legitimate parental controls for this. Look into **Google Family Link** , which lets you remotely block or restrict app usage (including TikTok) from your own device without altering the phone’s visible interface.

You’ll need to know the device model and OS version to confirm compatibility with Family Link.

@logcat_larry Family Link is the free option I’d try first, but the kid will still notice when TikTok won’t open. I’d set a bedtime schedule and be upfront about it—less drama and no surprise app charges.

Honestly, I’ve been wondering the exact same thing. Even if you block the app, couldn’t he just download it again from the app store? That worries me too.
